FBI Director James B. Comey’s February 28, 2017, press release naming Carl Ghattas executive assistant director of the National Security Branch states: “Mr. Ghattas entered on duty with the FBI in 1997 and was first assigned to the extraterritorial investigations squad at the Washington Field Office, where he investigated acts of terrorism committed against Americans abroad.” The April 7, 2016, FBI executive-appointments release repeats the same EOD sentence.
The 2017 release adds: “Throughout his career, Mr. Ghattas has served in leadership positions in the Counterterrorism Division, the Directorate of Intelligence, and the Washington Field Office.” Those are the Bureau’s words for leadership posts. They are not a list of crimes.
A Duke University cybersecurity advisory-board biography, and a 2021 University of Nevada, Las Vegas, event biography that tracks the same career, state he was a prosecutor in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from 1993 to 1997 before the Bureau. Booz Allen’s own “Keeping America Safe” profile says he began at the Broward County, Florida, State Attorney’s Office. Those are employer and university bios, not FBI press. This page does not invent a case name from that prosecutor tour.
The same Duke advisory-board biography states a Bachelor of Arts from Duke University and a Juris Doctor from Washington University. UNLV’s event page repeats those degrees. No FBI press release on this pass prints the degrees. They sit here as the advisory-board / event bios state them.
