Ghattas states: “Carl retired from the FBI in July 2018.” The UNLV Boyd School of Law April 21, 2021, event biography uses the same sentence: “Mr. Ghattas retired from the FBI in July 2018.” Those are university pages stating a July 2018 retirement after the 1997–2018 FBI tour.
On July 19, 2018, the Washington Examiner (Naomi Lim) reported, citing a Wall Street Journal account, that several FBI officials were leaving, and named “Carl Ghattas, the FBI’s National Security Branch executive assistant director,” as “departing for corporate jobs.” The New York Post the same day, also citing the Journal, named Ghattas among officials “reportedly leaving their posts,” identifying him as executive assistant director of the national security branch.
